Providing the Services

A Family Friendly, Bulk Billing GP practice

We endeavour to provide evidence based medical care for your family in the convenience of neighbourhood location family oriented modern general practice providing comprehensive medical care.

Appointments

Our appointments are available online as well as on phone. Please book your appointment by going online from our home page and HotDoc app. You can also call on 0291600000 to book appointment.
Please note that NOT ALL the appointments are published online. In case of need for a same day appointments, please contact the reception.
We are not a walk-in centre and prefer you book appointments. We always keep capacity for same day urgent appointment. But due to unpredictable nature of demand in general practice and Medicare restrictions on GP’s, we can reach our capacity on certain days.
If you feel you have an urgent medical need and you are regular patient at the practice, please call us and explain the urgent to the reception. We will do our best to accommodate you depending on the urgency and capacity.

New Patients

If you are a new patient and will like to join the practice, please contact the reception staff for advice. Please do not book an online appointment as we will not be able to honour that appointment. Please be advised that there will be a GAP fee for the first visit with the doctor.
We also have introduced a gap fee of $50 for the patients who have not been seen in the practice in the last 2 years. If you want to make our practice your main care provider a MyMedicare registration is also desired. This will make sure that we are able to provide you all aspects of care and keep BULK Billing viable as further changes are expected in Medicare funding models.

Cancellation and No-Show Charges

Medicare funding is based on pay per service. To maintain BULK-BILLING our patients it is important that we run the practice efficiently. Any wasted appointment due to cancellation or not showing up means revenue loss for us. This also deprives others of a much-needed appointment.
If we are not notified of a cancellation or rescheduling 2 hours before the scheduled appointment or if you fail to attend your appointment without notice, you will be invoiced for a charge of $25. We unfortunately will not be able to write these charges off and our system will not allow you to book another appointment unless you have paid off the invoice.
The cancellation cut-off time for allied health appointments is 24 hours before your appointment time.
You can notify us if you are not able to make it to the appointment by calling us, replying ‘NO’ to the appointment SMS or by emailing us.

Telehealth/Telephone Appointments

We provide telephone/telehealth appointments under ongoing COVID provision. It is essential that you have had a Medicare service in the last 12 months at the practice. The telehealth appointments are not available online and have to be booked on phone. In certain situations, a telehealth appointment is not desirable for Medicare compliance. You will be advised of the options at the time of booking.
If patients wish to speak to the doctor, our experienced reception staff will be happy to take your details in a message and pass this on, as soon as possible. Either the reception staff or Doctor will return the call according to the urgency of the request.

Reminder System

Burdekin Road Medical Centre uses a recall and reminder system to advise you of your results being available to discuss or if you are due for a test or an assessment. Occasionally you may receive a reminder notice offering you preventive health services or to remind if immunisations or tests are due.

Referrals

We are competent at handling common health problems. When necessary, you may be referred to a specialist for further investigations and opinions. You can discuss this openly with your doctor.
If you need a new referral or a repeat referral, please book an appointment. For your convenience, if you just require a renewal of referral, please choose the link on our home page to request one.

Repeat Scripts

All requests for prescriptions will require you to make an appointment with your Doctor. If you have been visiting practice regularly and require ongoing repeat prescriptions, you can request repeat prescriptions online by visiting the link on our website home page.

Medical Certificates

If you are unwell and need to see the GP, you will need to book an appointment. In certain circumstances, when the condition is likely to resolve with self management, but your employer needs a medical certificate, please use the this link to request it. Please add as much information for the doctors to understand your situation. In certain circumstances, we may have to contact you by phone for clarification or book you for face-to-face consultation. Please note that we cannot provide certificates for children using the link provided.

Fees and Charges

We are essentially a FULLY BULKED BILLED Practice for Medicare services. We offer bulk billing to all regular patients holding a Medicare card, so there is no out of pocket cost for most GP services. However there are certain services like dressing change, procedures and iron infusion do carry out of pocket fees to cover our costs.
Some consultation types such as, driving medical, pre-employment medicals and work-related injuries cannot be charged to Medicare. You will be advised of the charges before the service is provided.
The Overseas Visitors and Students who hold eligible private insurance cards (BUPA, AHM, MediBank, Allianz, NIB and others) will have no GAP fee. Please check with us at the time of booking. If you do not hold any insurance, the fees are explained in the fees section.

Medicare Bulk Billing

Results

Results are confidential and cannot be given over the phone. You must book an appointment in order for us to give out the results of your test. This is to ensure the accurate results are given to the right patient by a professional medical staff.
With prior arrangements, we can some times discuss results on phone by booked telehealth appointment.
Please allow at least 2 days for pathology and radiology results to be processed and checked by the doctor. Although there is a robust recall and reminder system in place Please note it is the patient’s responsibility to make an appointment to discuss any test results with a Doctor. A good practice is to book at the appointment as soon as you have completed your tests.

Home Visits

Unfortunately at this stage, we do not have capacity to provide home visits. If you feel you or your family members will be in need of regular home visits, please contact alternate providers for providing care.

Waiting Times

We try to run on time and not keep patients waiting. However sometimes delays are unavoidable. We request your patience at these times. We will make every effort to keep you updated on any delays. Please make sure your details are up to date with us.

Telephone Interpreter Service

We are registered with the Telephone Interpreter Service (TIS) for patients requiring an interpreter. Please advise reception staff when you book your appointment that an interpreter is required. These appointments usually take longer than normal. Please make provision for that.
